No-trust in August

Published July 19, 2007

Pakistan Muslim League union council nazim Allah Dad Khar has said the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) will call the session of the district council before July 31 and file a no-confidence move against District Nazim Qayyum Jatoi in the first week of August.

Talking to Dawn after the budget session, he said the district nazim had lost the confidence of the house and 25 union council nazims, out of 146 union council nazims, were with him.

In the Wednesday session, the Jatoi group could show only 28 members in the session while the opposition had 86 members to their side.

Mr Jatoi claimed the opposition had brought outsider women in the session. He said many of his members could not attend the session because police and district administration had harassed them.

Despite a visible majority in the PML camp, Mr Jatoi is likely to take advantage of differences in the ruling PML. In the Wednesday session, bigwigs of the PML like Sardar Amjad Dasti, Mian Abbas Qureshi, Malik Rabani Khar, Sultan Hinjra and Abdullah Shah Bukhari did not participate.

It is learnt these political figures are annoyed over the chief minister’s decision to entrust tehsil nazims and MNA Ashiq Gopang to contain the district nazim.
