KARACHI, July 18: The first posting order for the newly-created post of supervisory police officers in the new police system contradicts the claims of the police high-ups that an SPO would be responsible only for two police stations as there are at least eight SPOs who would be holding the charge of three police stations simultaneously.

According to the order, 43 SPOs were on Tuesday posted across the city police stations while 10 senior police officers were transferred and given new responsibilities. The post of town police officer (TPO) has ceased to exist and now the head of a town would be known as its SP.

The new police setup dividing the city into three zones, each headed by a deputy inspector- general, was enforced on Monday after the old system failed to deliver. The concept of appointing each SPO on every two police stations was to improve the performance of police stations, redress grievances of the people and boost the image of police. The job description of an SPO is to monitor the affairs of operations and investigations simultaneously and report to his senior officers.

However, eight SPOs were posted on more than two police stations, who are: ASP Sohail Zafar Chatta: Pak Colony, Site, Pirabad; DSP Aijaz Hashmi: Azizabad, Joharabad, Yousaf Plaza; DSP Abdul Rasheed Khan: Orangi Town, Mominabad, Pakistan Bazar; DSP Chaudhry Sohail Faiz: Sharea Faisal, Shah Faisal Colony and Al Falah; DSP Gul Hasan Larakh: Jackson, Docks, KPT; DSP Maqsood Ahmed: New Karachi, Bilal Colony, New Karachi Industrial Area; DSP Shafi Rind: Moachko, Baldia Town, Saeedabad; and DSP Muhammad Ali Wassan: Sukhan, Shah Latif and Ibrahim Hydri.

Besides, ASP Furrkah Bashir was posted as SPO of Korangi Industrial Area and Landhi police stations; ASP Muhammad Farooq, Darakhshan and Gizri; DSP Altaf Husain, Mehmoodabad and Baloch Colony; DSP Asghar Usman, Sir Syed Town and Ajmar Nagri; DSP Chaudhry Saeed Tariq, Supermarket and Gulbahar; DSP Farooq Sherzaman, Taimuria and Shahrah Noor Jehan; DSP Ghulam Fareed, Korangi and Zaman Town; DSP Haseeb Afzal Baig, Airport and Malir Cantt; DSP Jam Zafarullah Dharejo, Preedy and City Courts; DSP Javed Aslam, F.B Industrial Area and Gabol Town; DSP Javed Bhatti, Clifton and Boat Basin; DSP Majeed Abbas, Surjani Town and Manghopir; DSP Malik Mazhar Husain, Risala and Eidgah; DSP Malik Muhammad Ihsan, Baghdadi and Kalri; DSP Manthar Kaka, Quaidabad and Sharafi Goth; DSP Maula Bux Laghari, Sachal and Gulistan-i-Jauhar; DSP Muhammad Akhtar, Bin Qasim and Steel Town; DSP Muhammad Boota, Nazimabad and Rizvia; DSP Nawaz Ranjaha, New Town and Bahadurabad; DSP Nisar Memon, Sohrab Goth and Gulshan-i-Maymar; DSP Qasim Ghauri, Soldier Bazar and Ferozabad; DSP Qazi Kamran Rasheed, Artillary Maidan and Saddar; DSP Rais Abdul Ghani, Gadap and Memon Goth; DSP Rehmatullah Khan, Liaquatabad and Sharifabad; DSP Riaz Ahmed Lodhi, Aziz Bhatti and PIB Colony; DSP Rizwan Ali Wasti, Samnabad and Gulberg; DSP Shah Jehan, Model Colony and Malir City; DSP Shahnawaz, Chakiwara and Kalakot; DSP Sultan Ahmed Yousfazai, North Nazimabad and Paposhnagar; DSP Syed Asghar Ali Shah, Mithadar and Kharadar; DSP Syed Qaiser Ali Shah, Gulshan and Mobina Town; DSP Syed Raza Husain Shah, Saudabad and Khokhrapar; DSP Syed Salman Husain, Defence and Frere; DSP Tahir Noorani, Garden and Nabi Bux; and DSP Zahid Husain, Shershah and Mauripur.

Apart from the SPOs, some senior officers were also transferred such as Dr Sain Rakhio Mirani was posted as SP of Landhi Town; Dr Kamran Fazal as SP of Keamari Town; Naved Ahmed Nisar Khwaja as SP of Site Town; Fayyaz Ahmed Khan as SP of Lyari Town; Tanveer Ahmed Tahir as SP of Mahafiz Force; Pir Farid Jan Sarhandi as SP of CID; Mushtaq Mehr as SSP of Investigation, West Zone; Javed Mehr as SSP of Investigation, East Zone; Aftab Ahmed Halepoto as SSP of Investigation, South Zone; while SSP Dr Sanaullah Abbasi was transferred from the ACLC and posted as ADIG of Establishment, and Niaz Ahmed Khoso was posted as SSP of ACLC.Provincial Police Officer Ziaul Hasan Khan at a press conference a couple of days back said: “The posts of sub-divisional police officer and town police officer will cease to exist. Now a deputy superintendent of police or assistant superintendent of police will work as a supervisory police officer on every two police stations. The supervisory police officer will monitor the operations and investigation affairs at the same time.”

Under the new system, there would be one DIG for investigation for the whole city. He will head the specialised investigation units, including the Anti-Car Lifting Cell, the Anti-Violent Crime Cell, and the Anti-Dacoity and Robbery Cell, he added.
