TAXILA, July 17: Commuters and residents in Taxila cantonment literally remained under siege for over six hours due to strict security measures adopted by law-enforcement agencies during President General Pervez Musharraf’s visit to the Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) on Tuesday.
There was massive security mounted near the Taxila cantonment from Monday evening but all roads and entrance gates to the HIT residential areas were closed to the public from 10am till the president left the city at 6pm.
No one was allowed to enter the museum road and cantonment link road.
Shahpur Khurram Paracha road was closed for all kinds of traffic and nobody was allowed to cross the barricades erected by the law-enforcement agencies.
People living in localities including Shahpur, Dhoke Wajan, Dhabian, PMO Colony, Museum Colony, Khurram Paracha, Bhir Dargahi, Bilal Colony and other areas were badly affected due to unavailability of transport.
The residents especially students and elderly persons who had left their houses early in the morning for their offices and educational institutions were not allowed to pass through the security barricades.
Woman killed: A woman was killed in traffic accident in Hasanabdal on Tuesday.
Shahzadi Begum, 42, a resident of Bhaidian village, was knocked down by a speedy van (HZ-56) near Abbotabad chowk on Hazara road.
