LAHORE, July 16: Gelding Zanjeer surprised punters by winning the feature event of the day/night Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday evening. Zanjeer, who ran off the board in last race carrying 9-9, has been dropped by five pounds and placed 9-4 to get one pound advantage against hot favourite Noor.

The gelding covered the 1200-metre distance in one minute and 15 2/5 seconds under experienced rider Shahid Rehman. It defeated Princess of Gujrat by 3 ½ length.

Noor, rode by M. Zeeshan, occupied third position whereas Chrismatic claimed fourth place.

Gujrat Princess covered 900-metre distance in 55 2/5 seconds to win the seventh and last race of the day titled Jhelum Plate Class-V Division-I by five lengths as Simbi remained second followed by Red Hot Fire and The Senator.

Earlier, Sapna won the fifth race titled Jhelum Plate Class-V Division-II, contested over 900 metres. With jockey Javed Iqbal in the saddle, Sapna struggled against Moj Mela and won the race by only a neck, clocking 56 4/5 seconds. M. Wasim rode Moj Mela.

Shah Pari owned by Adil Hayat and rode by Tariq Habib won the fourth race which was contested over 800 metres. Princess Afaq captured second position while Weldun Showgun claimed third place.

The third contest, Kharian Plate Class-VII Division-II, was won by Lucky Coin, trained by Tauqir Ahmed and rode by Sajjad Hussain. Cheeko Khan captured second place.

Mahima and Black King won the opener and the second race of the day respectively.
