Telecom network restored

Published July 17, 2007

ISLAMABAD, July 16: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd has restored almost the entire telecom network damaged in recent floods in Balochistan and elsewhere.

Links with 33 of the 35 telephone exchanges affected due to rains and floods have been restored. Links with only two exchanges are yet to be restored, mainly due to inaccessibility of the areas concerned.

Both the links will be restored as soon as the sites become accessible, a press release issued by the PTCL says. The handout claims that the PTCL staff undertook restoration work round the clock in order to ensure speedy completion of their task.

Telecommunications system was badly affected due to recent torrential rains and floods and the PTCL had to suffer a loss of Rs25 million in the shape of revenue opportunity and restoration costs.

The restoration work was mainly hindered by closure of different roads and huge damage to various exchanges.
