KARACHI, July 16: An anti-terrorism court on Monday indicted Asif Brohi accused of kidnapping a minor boy for ransom and later killing him on Nov 29, 2006 in the Malir City police limits.

Judge Ghulam Ali A. Samtio of ATC-1, who is conducting the trials, fixed July 18 and asked special public prosecutor Niamat Ali Randhawa for recording the statements of the prosecution witnesses after the accused pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecution, the accused with absconding co-accused Aijaz and Imran Ali had kidnapped Mohammad Faisal, 6, on Nov 29, 2006 from in front of his house in Daud Goth and demanded a ransom of Rs400,000 for his release from Mohammad Ashfaq, maternal uncle of the victim. It was reported that the family of the victim by telephone conversation had fixed an amount Rs35,000 and paid it to the accused, but he did not return the boy and strangled him on Dec 21 and threw his body into a well near a shrine in Malir.
