KARACHI, July 15: Three-year-old bay filly Fantastic Baby powered her way to lift the Monsoon Cup in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The favourite filly was among six winners in a card of nine races who returned with flying colours as predicted by Dawn.

She galloped to a facile four lengths victory over another filly Janu Love Inshu under rider M. Yousuf to make it two on trot. Hi Darling stood third, beaten by another four lengths, while Forget Me Not completed the frame.

Jockey Ghulam Shabbir II steered four-year-old bay filly Rolex to an impressive eight lengths victory over Shiracco to land the Sindh Cup. The triumph enabled Rolex to make it two-in-a-row.

Mr Paidagir and Smiling Face followed the above two in same order for places.

Earlier, Shabbir piloted five-year-old bay Tharkyee to three lengths victory to complete a fine double.

On the whole, the racing fraternity had a field day as six favourites and a joint favourite obliged them.

Champion rider M. Nasir shared the day’s honours with his contemporary Shabbir by riding home a brace of winners – Sher-e-Awan and Mr Mention Not - in the first two races.

The former edged past On Looker by two-and-a-half lengths while the latter stormed to a two lengths victory over Love Pakistan.

Owner Syed Ali Gohar Shah had a satisfying day as his two horses –favourite Silver City and joint favourite Royal Loyalty – presented him with winners. They were saddled by trained Talib Hussain.

Mohammad Essa, a former champion rider, piloted Kat Mandu to half length victory to make it two-in-a-row while outsider Power plus ended pretensions of favourite Jaguar to land the eighth race.
