Fantastic Baby can put rivals to shame today

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, July 14: Three-year-old bay filly Fantastic Baby appears poised to make it two on the trot should she lift the Monsoon Cup 2007 in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The filly from the stables of Tanveer Mirza and Kamal Farooq comes into reckoning following her triumph in last outing in a smart time.

She is likely to be chased by another filly Janu Love Inshu and nine-year-old bay Trust Again.

A field of 10 horses has been drawn in the Monsoon Cup, top division of class VII, to be run over a distance of 5 ½ furlongs.

Continuing from where she had left, four-year-old bay filly Rolex is tipped to reign supreme in the Sindh Cup in which 11 aspirants are to face the starter barring last minute withdrawals.

She stormed to facile 11 ½ lengths victory on last weekend and in all probability looks certain to overcome the opponents.

Her likely challengers are bay mare Smiling Face colt Shiracco. However, the performance of chestnut Johnie Walker is to be watched.

A card of nine races, including two cups, has been chalked out for the days programme and the first race gets into action at 12.30pm.

Despite her successive failures, three-year-old bay colt Cash Flow is again our fancy to win the days feature event. He has the ability to register a thumping victory over his opponents provided he is backed by the connection. He should be followed by Arab Hi Arab and Reyan King for the places.

With a win under her belt, Kat Mandu, a four-year-old chestnut filly, is tipped to oblige punters by claiming honours in the fifth race.

She will have to overcome Jack In The Box and Jawan Bakht to repeat the feat.

However, four-year-old chestnut colt Quince from the stables of Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara can win any time.

Eight-year-old bay Sher-e-Awan and three-year-old chestnut colt Mr. Mention Not should make amends to land the first and second races. Both the horses are to be ridden by champion rider M. Nasir.

Eight-year-old bay Silver City, Jaguar and Tun Baba Tun have strong credentials to pick up spoils in the last three races.
