‘MMA lawmakers should quit Balochistan govt’

By Amanullah Kasi

QUETTA, July 14: The vice-president of the provincial chapter of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Sahibzada Pir Abdur Rahim Naqshbandi, has said that for the greater unity of the opposition the MMA ministers should resign from the coalition government in Balochistan.

He has also said the military operation in the province should be stopped.

Speaking at a press conference at the press club on Saturday, he sought the establishment of an inquiry commission, headed by the judge of the apex court, to probe into the “tragedy of Lal Mosque and Jamia Hafsa in which innocent students were killed”.

Sahibzada Naqshbandi alleged that the unwise policies of Gen Pervez Musharraf had plunged the country into a constitutional crisis. He was of the opinion that the military ruler should abandon his attempts to saving the country from the disastrous situation it was facing.

He said the opposition parties should shun their ideological differences and concentrate their attention towards the military dictatorship that created disharmony between the people and army.

The MMA leader was critical of the military operation in Balochistan and Waziristan, attacks on the seminaries and killing of innocent men, women and children in Lal Mosque, Jamia Hafsa and in Karachi on May 12, saying the government must stop extra-constitutional methods in order to restore normality in the country.
