LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), July 14: Angry people blocked the Peshawar-Torkham road for several hours on Saturday for a second time in three days in protest against non-supply of electricity to the tehsil.

They called for early restoration of power supply to their area. Electricity supply to Landi Kotal was disconnected on Thursday after residents of the Sheikhan village, near Peshawar, damaged two main towers.

Bara residents are reported to have cut off water supply to the village in protest. They accused the Sheikhan nazim of inciting the people to damage the towers.

Most areas of Landi Kotal, Jamrud and Bara have been without electricity for the last four days. The power outage also caused water shortage in all three tehsils of the Khyber Agency.

The road blockade caused inconvenience to commuters as well as refugees returning to Afghanistan. Hundreds of women and children had to walk almost 10km to reach the other end of the road in hot weather.

The road was, opened late in afternoon after an assurance by the local administration and Wapda officials that power would be restored by Saturday night.
