ISLAMABAD, July 14: Students from Rawalpindi and Islamabad clinched four of the top six positions in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examinations 2007 conducted by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), show the results for the science and humanities groups declared here on Saturday.

Fatima Ayaz and Mujtaba Hassan Raza, both students of Army Public School, Westridge-III, Rawalpindi, bagged the overall first and second position by obtaining 799 and 796 marks, respectively, out of the total 850 marks. The third position was secured by Moneeba Gul Malik of HITEC School and College for Girls, Taxila. She obtained 794 marks.

In humanities groups, Zahida Noreen of Pakistan Education Centre, Doha (Qatar), stood first with 708 marks. The second position was bagged by Hafiz Mohammad Abdullah Ghazi of the Institute of Islamic Sciences, Satra Meel, Islamabad, with 692 marks, and the third position by Wajeeha Naeem of the F.G. Girls Model School, G-9/3, Islamabad, with 688 marks.

According to the statistics, the overall result remained at 52.04 per cent, as 26,238 students of the total 50,447 cleared the examinations.

The pass percentage among boys was 45.59 per cent as 12,793 of them had been declared successful out of the 28,084 candidates, while among girls it was 60.14 per cent with 13,445 girls of the total 22,263 passing the examinations.

The statistics revealed that 40,330 candidates took the examinations as regular candidates, while 10,117 appeared as private candidates in the examinations held in April-May this year.

The results showed that 90 per cent of the private candidates had failed the examination. The pass percentage among the regular and private candidates was 62.57 and 10 per cent, respectively.

According to the results, 1,827 candidates (703 boys and 1,124 girls) had passed the examination in A-1 grade, 4,819 candidates (2,229 boys and 2,590 girls) in A-grade, 8,251 candidates (3,992 boys and 4,259 girls) in B-grade, 9,029 candidates (4,515 boys and 4,514 girls) in C-grade, 2,261 candidates (1,316 boys and 945 girls) in D-grade and 18 candidates (13 boys and five girls) in E-grade.

The data showed that the board had withheld the results of nine candidates for want of fee or eligibility, while 21 unfair means cases were also reported.

Unlike previous years, the FBISE did not provide the soft copy of the results to the newspaper offices. A board official, when contacted, said FBISE Controller Examination Mumtaz Ali Khan did not issue any instructions to the concerned staff in this regard. He also expressed his inability to arrange the electronic copy of the results.

Meanwhile, the FBISE issued a notification announcing that the SSC Supplementary Examinations 2007 will commence from September 20 and the last date for submitting the admission forms without late fee is August 3. The last date for submission of forms with double fee is August 13.

The board has announced that the admission fee for the students of science and humanities groups with practical subjects is Rs600 for students in Pakistan and $110 for overseas students, and humanities group without practical subjects is Rs550 for students in Pakistan and $100 for overseas candidates.
