NAWABSHAH, July 14: The general manager of Sukkur region of Nadra, Col. Mohammad Khalid Khan, on Saturday repeated the complaint that people in rural areas were not coming forward to obtain Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs).
Mr Khan said at a meeting of elected representatives of the district presided over by District Nazim Faryal Talpur that Nadra had established permanent units in Nawabshah, Sakrand, Qazi Ahmed and Daur towns along with a mobile van but except for Nawabshah the other centres were not giving good results because on average each centre was issuing only 10 to 15 cards daily.
He said that his organisation was the top most information technology (IT) institution of the country and the 20th in world.
Sukkur region looked after 12 districts with 32 permanent offices, 12 mobile vans and three semi mobile units, he said.
He said that almost 350908 people above 18 years of age had been issued computerized NICs and efforts were being made to issue cards to the rest of 298922.
He urged elected representatives of people to play their role in persuading people to get CNICs, which he said had become essential for obtaining passport, bank account, zakat and bait-ul-maal funds and enrolment as voter.
He said that 2007 was the year of elections and people should obtain CNICs for enrolling themselves as voters.
He said that he had received complaints regarding non-cooperation of staff and warned that he would take disciplinary action in case of complaints.
District nazim and other elected representatives demanded waiver of fee for Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) to ensure 100 per cent results on which he assured that he would recommend it to the high ups.
