KPT gets new dredger

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 14: The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has acquired a new trailer suction hopper dredger – ABUL – whose launching was performed by Mrs Bina Babar Ghauri, wife of minister for ports and shipping.

The ceremony took place in Sliedrecht, Holland, on Friday (July six).

The new addition in KPT will also facilitate other Pakistani ports in dredging and port expansion work.

The dredger will set sail for Pakistan in December or even earlier and is expected to reach in January 2008. The first job of the “ABUL” would be to deepen 11.5 km long KPT channel from its existing depth of 12.2 metres to a depth of 13.5 metres, says a press release.
