TORONTO, July 13: Canada has declared that the quadrangular Twenty20 cricket tournament this September has been postponed. The Canadian board had hoped for the West Indies and two other full-member ICC countries to play a competition in Toronto prior to the Twenty20 World Championship to be held in South Africa.
The board says time was inadequate to obtain TV rights for such an event, but will continue to look at the possibilities in 2008 and afterwards.
“Unfortunately, due to the difficulties of securing global media support in such a short timeframe, the CCA reports that it has proved impossible to bring the project to fruition in 2007,” a Canadian spokesperson said.—Agencies
