87 seminary students freed

RAWALPINDI, July 13: Eighty-seven male students of Lal Masjid detained in Adiala Jail were handed over to their parents and relatives on Friday night, as several families struggled to trace any clue to their missing loved ones.

According to jail officials, the Lal Masjid students were driven to the ‘Facilitation Centre’ set up in Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad where they were given into the custody of their families.

The release came about after the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday directed the federal government to free all those Lal Masjid students, who were not involved in criminal cases.

After the release of the 87 students, there are still 156 male students in the jail whose fate is yet to be decided by the authorities.—Staff Reporter
