KARACHI: Work on signal-free corridor soon

KARACHI, July 13: The city government will start work on another signal-free corridor project during the current month under which flyovers will be constructed at four intersections along the project site. The intersections specified in the Rs2 billion project are Nagan Chowrangi, Gulshan Chowrangi, Jauhar More and Askari-IV.

A meeting to discuss the project was held under the chairmanship of DCO Javed Hanif Khan here on Friday. A committee was formed to identify the corridor’s sections from where underground utility lines are required to be shifted.

The DCO asked the committee to complete its work within the next few days in close coordination with the KESC, SSGC, PTCL and KWSB.

EDO Works and Services Amanullah Chacher, EDO Transport Mohammad Ather, Project Director Rauf Akhter Farooqi, and representatives of the utility agencies were among those who attended the meeting.

The committee, which will carry out a physical survey of the project site, is headed by the Amanullah Chacher.

The DCO told the participants of the meeting that the officials concerned must ensure all possible measures to avoid traffic congestion during the construction work. He laid stress on chalking out alternative routes and diversion maps.

The DCO directed the committee to start its work immediately. The committee members, along with experts and engineers of the agencies, should carry out the survey of all the four sites simultaneously, he said.—PPI
