Five peace committees set up

LAKKI MARWAT, July 12: The Lakki Marwat district government on Thursday formed five peace committees at the police station-level to help the law-enforcement agencies curb the activities of armed groups and criminals.

District Nazim Humayun Saifullah Khan, District Coordination Officer Amer Latif and District Police Officer Waqif Khan visited the police stations in Ghaznikhel, Darra Pezu, Serai Naurang, Tajori and Dadiwala and held meetings with the union councils’ nazims, naib nazims, councillors, elders and religious and political leaders to constitute the committees.

District Councillor Haji Juma Raz Khan will head the peace committee in Ghaznikhel, Union Council Nazim Aslam Khan in Darra Pezu, Bakhmal Ahmadzai UC Nazim Malik Mohammad Idrees Khan in Tajori, Landiwah UC Nazim Mohammad Akram Khan in Dadiwala and Mohammad Aslam Khan Mammakhel will lead the peace committee in Serai Naurang.

The peace committee for Lakki police station will be formed on July 23. Similar committees will also be set up at the tehsil and district levels.

The district nazim, the DCO and the DPO said the committees would work voluntarily to ensure the writ of the law and help the law-enforcement agencies curb the activities of armed groups and criminals.

They underlined the need for developing a community-policing system.
