PJF officials no more functional: POA

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, July 11: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has declared the office-bearers of the Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) as defunct and have constituted a three-member committee to hold fresh elections of the federation.

POA secretary Abdul Khaliq Khan told Dawn on Wednesday that the decision had been taken after some constitutional blunders were noticed in the last elections of the federation.

He said the POA did not disaffiliate the PJF but has only declared its office-bearers as defunct. He said secretary Pakistan Volleyabll Federation Major (retd.) Mohammad Afzal, president Pakistan Taekwondo Federation Iftikhar Tabbasum and secretary Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) Mohammad Asghar were comprising the committee which would hold the fresh elections of the PJF after completing the process.

The Punjab Olympic Association (PJA) had also disaffiliated Punjab Judo Association recently, citing some unconstitutional acts in the association.

Though the Pakistan Olympic Association and its Punjab chapter are levelling allegations on secretary PJF and PJA, Mahmood Naveed, sources said it was a personal vendetta on the part of Punjab Olympic Association secretary Khawaja Idris who was trying to oust Mahmood from the Olympic family on the instructions of POA.
