Grenade found in ambulance

ISLAMABAD, July 11: Panic griped the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) following the discovery of a hand grenade and a magazine from an ambulance parked on the hospital premises on Wednesday, sources told Dawn.

The sources said the ambulance driver stumbled on the grenade and the magazine of 30 bullets lying under the stretcher while washing the vehicle.

While performing duty near Lal Masjid on Tuesday evening, the driver was asked at around 6:20pm to shift an injured official of the elite force to hospital.

Two personnel of Rangers accompanied the injured in the ambulance to the Federal Government Services Hospital. Later, the driver retuned to Pims and parked the vehicle in ambulance parking area and left for his home at around 8pm.

On Wednesday morning, he found blood stains on the stretcher of the ambulance and took the vehicle to the washing area and found the ammunition.

Senior administration officials of the hospital rushed to the spot and informed law-enforcement agencies about the discovery.

A major of Rangers arrived on the spot and after inspection declared the grenade and magazine government ammunition and took them away.—Staff Reporter
