KARACHI: City govt launches cleanliness drive

KARACHI, July 11: Sindh Minister for Local Government, Katchi Abadis and Spatial Development Mohammad Hussain Khan has urged citizens to fully cooperate with their relevant town municipal administrations (TMAs) in the cleanliness campaign launched by city government.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a day-long medical camp for rain victims in Yusuf Goth, UC-7, in Gadap Town.

Hussain said the removal of solid waste and garbage should now be the priority of the TMAs, as the rains had stopped for the time being.

Their main focus should be ensuring timely removal of garbage, proper sweeping and shifting garbage to the designated sites, he added.

The minister directed all the TMAs of the metropolis to establish more garbage transfer stations to store garbage before sending it to landfills.

The debris of razed illegal encroachments should also be removed as soon as possible, he instructed.

He said all TMAs should involve their respective union councils in the cleanliness initiative. He noted that it was good to observe periodic cleanliness drives, but such efforts should become a matter of course.

Mr Hussain directed the TMO Gadap to personally monitor the cleanliness drive in the town and to ensure that all available resources were utilised for the purpose.
