KARACHI, July 11: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that his government has taken all emergency measures to provide relief to the rain- and flood-affected people in the province.
Further loss of life had been averted through these measures, he told various delegations which called on him at the CM’s House here on Wednesday. Dr Arbab informed them that Relief Commissioner Anwar Haider had been directed to accelerate the pace of relief work in the affected areas, and held out the assurance that all available resources would be exploited to ensure survival and rehabilitation of the affected people without any discrimination in urban and rural areas of the province, including those in Qambar, Shahdadkot and Dadu districts.
The chief minister pointed out that as many as 73 relief camps had been set up in Qambar and Shahdadkot districts alone where about 15,000 people were being provided food and medical assistance. A committee of representatives from Dadu, Qambar and Shahdadkot districts had been constituted to monitor the flood situation, he added.
PML-N not satisfied
Acting President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Sindh, Salim Zia has expressed dissatisfaction over the government’s measures for the rehabilitation of the flood-hit people of Shahdadkot, Qambar, Qubo Saeed Khan districts and coastal areas. In a statement issued here on Wednesday, he criticised the government for failing to provide prompt and adequate relief to the victims, observing that the torrential rains and flooding had caused a heavy loss of life and property and rendered thousands of families homeless.
“The rulers are trying to cover up their failure, inefficiency and weaknesses in this regard,” he claimed, adding that the leaders and activists of the PML-N had visited different affected areas where people were desperately waiting for drinking water, food and immediate medical assistance for the victims of water-borne diseases.
