Powell cleared for Rome meet

ROME, July 10: World 100-metre record holder Asafa Powell has been given the all clear to compete in the Rome leg of the Golden League series on Friday after missing the Paris meet last week through injury, organisers confirmed.

Powell is also expected to compete with the Jamaican men's team in the 4x100m relay at the IAAF Super Grand Prix meet in Lausanne, Switzerland on Tuesday.

Powell, who broke the world record in June 2005 in Athens, injured his groin during the 100 metre final at the Jamaican National Championships last month.

The 24-year-old's absence from Friday's event in the French capital ruled him automatically out of contention for at least a share of the one million dollar jackpot.

The seven figure bonus is on offer to any athlete who can win at each of the six Golden League meets between June 15 and Sept 16.

Last year Powell won a part of the jackpot after winning the 100m in each of the six legs.
