12 injured in roof collapse

LAHORE, July 10: Twelve people were injured, six of them critically, in a roof collapse in Salamatpura, Baghbanpura on Tuesday.

The Baghbanpura SHO, however, claimed that only one labourer was injured in the incident.

Rescuers told Dawn that a dilapidated steel roof of Iftikhar Engineering Works, a washing unit of raw materials, owned by Nisar caved in and employees trapped under the debris.

Rescue 1122, Edhi ambulances and police reached the spot and pulled the workers out of the debris.

The injured Khalil, 22, Ghulam Rasool, 29, Mohsin, 18, and Faryad, 35, were taken to the General Hospital and Abdul Rahman, 26, and Amjad Butt, 27, to the Services in a critical condition.

WALL COLLASPE: Waqas Ali sustained critical injuries when an under-construction wall collapsed in Shadipura, Baghbanpura.

ACCIDENTS: Three people, including a woman, were killed in road accidents in the city on Tuesday.

An unidentified 50-year-old woman was knocked down by a speeding car in Shalimar while crossing the road.

An unidentified man was killed under the wheels of a train near 7-Up railway crossing.

A 65-year-old unidentified man was run over and killed by a vehicle near Children’s Hospital in Naseerabad.
