‘Untouchables’ vaccinated

By Our Correspondent

MUZAFFARGARH, July 10: The ordeal of three members of a family came to an end on Tuesday after a health team administered them anti-rabies at Basti Fazil Karlo, 15km from here.

Noor Muhammad Karlo, his wife and son Fiaz Husain had been confined in separate rooms by their relatives for the last four days as they had touched their dog-bitten cow.

On Tuesday, the relatives brought them to the DHQ hospital and produced a Zakat form duly attested by the local Zakat chairman to the medical superintendent. The MS asked them to contact District Social Welfare Officer Azhar Yousaf for getting vaccine. Mr Yousaf refused to give them vaccine, saying that the budget had elapsed on June 30 and he had no money. As a result, the patients returned to their home.

Later in the evening a team led by EDO (health) Dr Habibul Rehman came to their house and administered them vaccine. He said the vaccine had been brought from the Khangarh rural health centre.
