KARACHI: DCO tasked to control prices, supplies


KARACHI, July 10: The secretary to the government of Sindh on Local Government, Katchi Abadis and Spatial Development Department has, under Section 2(a) read with Section 4 of the Sindh Essential Commodity Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act 2005, appointed all the district coordination officer (DCOs) of Sindh as district controllers of prices and supplies in their respective jurisdictions.

Another notification issued by the secretary has empowered all the EDOs (revenue) in Sindh to act as inspectors within their respective jurisdictions, exercising Section 2(e) of the Sindh Essential Commodity Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act 2005.

Compensation given

District Coordination Officer Javed Hanif Khan has given away cheques for Rs0.7 million each to the heirs of seven firemen who had died during a fire-fighting operation at a Site factory in January. Besides, cheques for Rs30,000 each were also given to all 16 fireman who had received injuries during the operation.

Municipal Services EDO Masood Alam, Chief Fire Officer Ehtishamudddin, representatives of the Union Export (Pvt) Ltd and the Site Association were also present on the occasion.

The DCO praised those who had given their lives to save hundred of lives, saying that their heirs should be proud of their martyrdom.

He also pledged that the city government would provide every modern facility along with all safety gears to the fire brigade and a strategy in this connection had already been made to minimize the casualties of firemen during rescue and fire-fighting operations.—PPI
