Policeman killed in Bannu

BANNU, July 9: An assistant sub-inspector of police was killed and three constables were injured when a police party was ambushed on Sunday night. Security in Bannu was beefed up after the attack.

Led by ASI Sulaiman Khan, the police party was attacked near Khattakhel Sabokhel Mandan area with grenades. Sulaiman Khan died on the spot. Constables Naimatullah Khan, Rasul Jan and Sawdad Khan suffered injuries and were taken to the district headquarters hospital.

Nisar Ahmed Khan adds from Mansehra: A police contingent came under fire in Kohistan on Monday. However, no casualties were reported. The contingent was removing boulders from a portion of the Karakoram Highway near Tangir and Darial districts blocked for several days following a landslide, official sources said. Police did not return fire.

Kohistan DPO Alam Zab Khan told Dawn that no policeman was injured in the incident. He said that Tangir and Darial were well-known havens for terrorists who often created problems.
