Students reunion with families delayed

RAWALPINDI, July 9: Another 100 male students of Lal Masjid detained in Adiala Jail could not be reunited with their families for want of police escorts on Monday. Security agencies shifted 126 students to Adiala jail after their ‘debriefing’ on Monday, increasing the number of students in the jail to 421, authorities confirmed.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court directed the federal government to release all the students of the Lal Masjid within next three days, if they were not involved in any criminal case.

Interior Secretary Kamal Shah informed the apex court that all the female students had been released, while the remaining male students would be set free after their identification procedure was completed.

A security source revealed that out of all the students arrested by the security agencies from the Lal Masjid, 79 male students had been ‘black listed’ and would not to be released.

They had been spotted in photographs and videos made by the security agencies during the showdown in which several people had been shot dead and three government buildings set on fire.

Deputy Superintendent of Adiala Jail Noor Hussain confirmed the delay in the release of another 100 male students on Monday saying that it was due to non-availability of police escorts.

Mr Hussain also confirmed the receiving of another 126 students of the Lal Masjid on Monday.—Staff Reporter
