KARACHI: Lecturer from Quetta robbed of car, valuables

KARACHI, July 9: A lecturer of the Agricultural College, Quetta, was deprived of his car and valuables in North Nazimabad on Monday. Arshad Ghani Khan had arrived here with his family to attend a marriage ceremony. On Monday afternoon, Mr Khan with his nephew, who was driving the car, went to his relatives’ in Block J, North Nazimabad. As they were unloading their luggage from the car, two armed men approached them and demanded their cellphones.

“They overpowered my nephew and took away his cash and cellphone. They hit us with pistol butts and escaped in my car (ALD-349) with all our belongings in it,” Mr Khan told Dawn.

He said there was jewellery in the car worth around Rs0.15 million, wedding dresses and similar valuable items. “I felt helpless standing on the road seeing my belongings and car being snatched at gunpoint,” he remarked.

He said after informing the police on emergency num-

ber 15, a police van arrived there within 10 minutes. They advised them to report the matter to the Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan police.

“The staff at the police station advised us not to lodge an FIR and wait for a couple of days in the hope that the suspects might abandon the vehicle somewhere in the city after carrying out some criminal act,” said

Mr Khan.

“As it is my first such experience with dacoits, I am following the advice of the police,” Mr Khan said.

Navy man killed

An employee of the Pakistan Navy was killed by unknown assailants on Sunday night in the Saeedabad locality.

Police said a fireman of the navy, Munir Ahmed Khan, 35, was riding his bicycle in sector 14 of Saeedabad when gunmen shot him dead.

The victim was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The victim hailed from Muzaffargarh, police said, adding that personal enmity might be the motive behind the murder.
