20 more Sindh villages flooded

By M.B. Kalhoro

LARKANA, July 8: Twenty more villages in Warah taluka’s Gaji Khuhawar union council were inundated after breaches in the main Ghar drain on Sunday.

The water level at the flood protective embankment in the Warah taluka is still not critical but the irrigation department and Qambar-Shahdadkot district government authorities are keeping a strict watch on the water discharge at this point.

The Sindh irrigation secretary and the DCO visited the dyke’s vulnerable points. Three breaches were reported in Main Nara Valley (MNV) drain near the Dhamraho Wah channel while floodwater that had entered into this irrigation channel had begun to flow back, damaging the recently planted paddy in the area.

Fearing flooding of some villages in low-lying areas near the dyke, the district nazim Qambar-Shahdadkot Nawab Shabir Ahmed Chandio and taluka nazim of Warah Manzoor Chandio urged people to leave the area, prompting an exodus of people into Warah town, seeking safety.
