LONDON, July 8: Epsom Derby winner Authorized, partnered by Frankie Dettori, was beaten into second place by 7-1 chance Notnowcato in the Group One Eclipse Stakes at Sandown on Saturday.
Ridden with enterprise by champion jockey Ryan Moore, Notnowcato raced alone on the stands side and had a length and a half to spare over Authorized, the 4-7 favourite, racing on the far side of the track.
George Washington, the 4-1 second favourite trained in Ireland by Aidan O'Brien and ridden by Seamus Heffernan, finished third of the eight runners, a head behind Authorized.
Last month amid emotional scenes Authorized gave Dettori his first Epsom Derby win at his 15th attempt.
It was a disappointing day for Dettori who was banned for three days by the stewards for careless riding in an earlier race. On Thursday he received a 14-day ban for overuse of the whip on a winning ride at Royal Ascot.
Notnowcato will probably run next in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York in August, a race he won last year.—Reuters
