SAHIWAL, July 8: Strong winds coupled with rain caused considerable damage to life and property in Sahiwal and Faisalabad on Saturday night.

The Faisalabad-Sahiwal road remained blocked for five hours after strong winds uprooted a number of trees.

The wall of a house in Chak 90/9-L collapsed. Its debris fell on the roof of an adjacent house owned by tailor Bashir Ahmed and subsequently the roof of his house caved in. His sister-in-law Imtiaz Bibi, son Jabran (14) and daughter Aisha (4) died on the spot.

Bashir himself, his wife Shahnaz, daughter Sana Bashir (10), mother Mukhtaran (70) and nephew Haroon (10) sustained injuries.

In village Haman Sanpal, the roof of a house caved in which claimed the life of Farzana and caused injuries to her four children.

Another incident of roof collapse was reported from Miran Shah village which claimed the life of Adeel and caused injuries to minors Sultan and Imran.

Electricity supply in the city and nearby towns of Harrappa, Noorshah, Kot Khadhim Ali Shah, Farid Town, Scheme 3, Qadirabad, Kamir remained suspended for six to eight hours.

FAISALABAD: Four people, including a woman and her daughter, were killed and 10 others sustained injuries when roofs of three houses collapsed due to heavy rain.

Reports said that Arshad Bibi and her daughter Shaista Khalid died instantly and Sajid Ali and Majid Ali suffered injuries when the roof of their house collapsed on them in Saifabad on Jhang Road.

Two persons, whose identity is still not established, died of electrocution in the vicinity of Dijkot.

Four people, Aslam, Azhar, Abdul Karim and Umer Draz, were wounded when the roof of Al-Naseer embroidery caved-in in Mehdi Mohallah.

Four family members, Munawar Bibi, Rukhsana, Nasir, and four-year-old Fizza received injuries after the roof of their house collapsed on them. They were admitted to the Allied Hospital where the condition of two of them was said to be critical.
