MARDAN, July 8: Robbers looted Rs20 million from three people of Timergara when they were going home from Peshawar on Saturday night.

Three money-changers and Hundi dealers of Timergara — Salahuddin, Yousuf Khan and Itbar Gul — were coming to Timergara from Peshawar when they were intercepted by the robbers near Narai Wala in Takhtbai. The robbers severely beat them and robbed them of Rs20 million at gunpoint.

One of the dealers, Salahuddin, suffered minor injuries on the head. He was taken to hospital at Takhtbai but was discharged after first aid.

Takhtbai police have refused to register an FIR against the robbers, saying they were making efforts to recover the looted money and an FIR would be registered against criminals soon. Police also claimed to have recovered some looted amount besides identifying the robbers.

However, they refused to divulge their names to the media.

Meanwhile, two men were killed after a dispute over the engagement of a girl turned violent in the Machey village in Mardan on Saturday.

Zahid Ali, son of Yousufdar, wanted to marry Shazia, daughter of Gul Bahadur. But Gul Bahadur did not like the match and got his daughter engaged with Mutahir Shah, the son of Muzaffar Shah, instead. This led to tension between the two families.

On Saturday, Zahid Ali and his brother Nihad Ali attacked Mutahir Shah, and Noorul Amin, son of Gul Bahadur, with automatic weapons in Machey village, killing both of them on the spot. The assailants fled from the spot after the incident.

Police have registered an FIR on the report of Sardar Shah, brother of Mutahir Shah, and further investigations are under way.
