Qualified youth coach shown the door by PCB

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, July 7: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sacked youth coach of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Mohsin Sheikh on the pretext that the post has now been abolished.

Mohsin was the only coach of the NCA whose performances were hailed by the three-member World Cup probe committee, headed by Ijaz Butt, in its report last May.

Mohsin, who passed Level-II coaching course from Cricket Australia and also has a Masters degree in sports coaching, apparently, could not develop an understanding with the NCA Director Mudassar Nazar and other coaching staff since he had his own distinct way of working.

Mohsin was also seen as the odd man out in NCA because he was appointed by former PCB chairman Dr Shaharyar M Khan on the strong recommendations of then Director Cricket Operations, Saleem Altaf.

Pakistan's vice-captain Salman Butt recently hailed the role of Mohsin in removing several shortcomings in his batting. However, it was learnt that soon after Salamn’s press statement, he had to face an ‘inquiry’ for praising an out-of-favour Mohsin.

The PCB said that Mohsin's sacking was based on the recommendations of the human resource audit company but this appears to be in clear contradiction of the very report which is available with Dawn and says nothing about Mohsin whatsoever.
