ISLAMABAD, July 7: The price of 22 essential kitchen items went up during the week ending July 6 over the previous week, according to the weekly price data released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) here on Saturday.
The data indicated that the individual prices of some vegetables, cooking oil and various varieties of the rice recorded an increase during the week under review for all income groups.
According to the FBS data, the price of onion during the week under review increased by 22.85pc to Rs15.59 per kg and eggs became costlier by 11.46pc to Rs48.32 per dozen compared to Rs12.69 and Rs43.35, respectively, in the previous week.
The price of potatoes rose by 9.49pc to Rs17.76 per kg from Rs16.22, LPG cylinder (11-kg) up by 1.91pc to Rs543.87 from Rs533.66, wheat up by 1.59pc to Rs12.17 per kg from Rs11.98, gram pulse (washed) up by 1.45pc to Rs39.07 per kg from Rs38.51; wheat flour by 1.13pc to Rs14.28 per kg from Rs14.12, masoor pulse (washed) rose 0.96pc to Rs48.31 per kg from Rs47.85, washing soap up by 0.71pc to Rs8.56 per cake from Rs8.50.
The price of salt powdered increased by 0.65pc to Rs4.68 per kg from Rs4.65, red chillies 0.61pc to Rs118.20 per kg from Rs117.48, sugar by 0.57pc to Rs28.27 per kg from Rs28.11, rice Irri-6 by 0.54pc to Rs22.19 per kg from Rs22.07, coarse latha by 0.48pc to Rs35.73 per Mtr from Rs35.55, shirting by 0.44pc to Rs66.29 per kg from Rs66, lawn by 0.36pc to Rs84.06 per metre from Rs83.76 and gur up by 0.23pc to Rs34.54 per kg from Rs34.48 the previous week.
The price of vegetable ghee (2.5-kg tin) rose by 0.23pc to Rs259.41 from Rs258.82, cooking oil (2.5-litre tin) 0.23pc to Rs259.41 from Rs258.82, garlic by 0.17pc to Rs51.52 per kg from Rs51.43, mash pulse (washed) by 0.07pc to Rs71.30 per kg from Rs71.25 and mustard oil up by 0.06pc to Rs87.22 per kg from Rs87.17.
The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) increased by 0.19 per cent during the week over the previous week.
The group-wise analysis of the behaviour of prices of 53 essential items prevailing in 17 towns of Pakistan showed that the SPI witnessed an increase of 0.36 per cent and 0.32 per cent, respectively, for households in the two lower income brackets (up to Rs3,000 and Rs3,001-5,000).
For the households in income brackets Rs5,001-12,000, the increase in the SPI was in the range of 0.23pc, while for the households in the income group of over Rs12,000, the inflation registered a growth 0.13 per cent over the previous week.
Comparing with the corresponding week last year, the SPI registered an increase of 7.69 per cent during the period under review.
