KARACHI, July 6: The Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Mohammad Afzal Tahir, has said that Pakistan is committed to the war on terrorism along with the international community.
Speaking at the 87th officers commissioning parade of the Pakistan Navy on Friday, he said that Pakistan’s desire for peace must not be misconstrued as a sign of weakness.
He said: “We want peace with all neighbours without compromising our honour and dignity.”
The Admiral said that Pakistan needed to build indigenous capability and pursue it with more vigour than before. Preparedness of armed forces and defence capability, both conventional and non-conventional, was a manifestation of our increasing confidence to effectively safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, he added.
He said the construction of Agosta 90 B submarines, the ongoing acquisition of Frigates’ project on transfer of technology basis from China, and P3 C aircraft from the United States would further strengthen the Pakistan Navy.
