LAHORE, July 6: Pakistan cricket selectors on Friday recalled opener Imran Farhat but ignored former skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq for the second phase of the two-week training-cum-conditioning-camp to be set-up in Quetta from July 10-23.

Inzamam is the only major omission from the list of 22 players named for the camp amid reports that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) top brass is not really inclined to select the Multan-born player for the upcoming series.

Sources close to Inzamam told Dawn that the former captain was keen on scoring the remaining 20 runs required to break legendary batsman Javed Miandad’s Pakistan record of highest run-getter but it appeared unlikely after his omission from the camp.

Left-handed opener Farhat, who was dumped by the selectors just before the World Cup in favour of Imran Nazir and was subsequently overlooked for the Abu Dhabi games against Sri Lanka on disciplinary grounds, has been given another chance to establish his credentials as a front-ranking opener in the country. Left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman is another player who has been reincluded in the training camp.

With the addition of Imran Farhat, the number of openers in the camp has risen to four with Salman Butt, Imran Nazir and Mohammad Hafeez being the other three.

There are seven batsmen, three-all rounders and seven bowlers who have been short-listed by the selectors while only one wicket-keeper in Kamran Akmal features in the list. An eight-member panel of officials will conduct the camp.

The first phase of the camp was held in Abbottabad last month while the third and last phase of the camp will be held in Karachi during August.
