LAHORE, July 6: Pakistan can produce 346,000 Mega Watt electricity through wind energy projects, says Ms Robyn McGuckin, regional coordinator and programme manager, South Asia Regional Initiative for Energy, Usaid.
She told APP during her visit to the city on Friday that industrialisation increased during the last few years, and Pakistan was confronted with acute power shortage which was prerequisite for development.
She said wind energy projects could be installed in Sindh, Balochistan and north Islamabad. Pakistani businessmen could also set up these projects with the help of US investors, she said.
She said the US private sector could be persuaded for investment in the energy sector of Pakistan as there was vast scope in this sector.
Regarding funding of the proposed projects, Ms Robyn said Asian Development Bank has set aside $3.5 billion for energy sector. “We will provide free technical and business advisory services for wind and solar energy projects.”
Ms Robyn said that solar energy projects could also help meet power demand and both the resources must be fully exploited to overcome power shortage.
