LARKANA, July 6: The floodwater after passing through Qambar is posing threat to Warah town as it submerged 30 villages in between the flood protective embankment and Hamid Shakh in the south of Warah.
Over 20 families have been stranded for failing to come out, reports reaching here said.
The Warah town of Qambar-Shahdadkot district is facing threat from three points, from Hamid Shakh in the South, Naseer Shakh on West and Warah canal on North.
Taluka Nazim Manzoor Chandio told Dawn on Friday that the floodwater was now mounting pressure on Naseer Shakh. He further feared that if banks of Naseer Shakh and Warah canal were not strengthened the gushing water would submerge Warah town.
Displaced families had taken shelter in school buildings but were not being properly looked after.
In Shahdadkot water pressure continued on Safiullah Magsi canal while from ‘Chukhi’ to Qambar its level dropped by four inches eliminating threat of submerging Shahdadkot.
However, the flood affectees complained of poor management as even drinking water was not available.
Even though water had receded to some extent in the pocket of Gabidero and Zero Point but a good number of people were still reported to be stranded there.
Dislocated families taking shelter in government buildings of Qambar town demonstrated outside the local press club on Friday.
The protesters alleged that the government had failed in providing them food, medicines and other relief goods as required in camps.
Those hundreds housed in schools were waiting for the government help but agencies could not provide them any assistance upon which they staged a sit-in outside the Muhltairkar office and at Martyrs Square. They urged the government to provide items of basic needs to the affecteed people.
President PPP Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah along with local leaders visited the affected villages on Friday and distributed relief goods on behalf of Ms Benazir Bhutto among the marooned people.
Chief Minister Sindh, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that all-out efforts were being made to provide relief to flood victims. He asked the concerned authorities to provide 70 motor boats on urgent basis to accelerate the evacuation of flood victims. He presided over a meeting in this connection here.
He informed that at 47 relief camps about 20,000 bags, 5,000 water-coolers had been provided to flood victims along with cooked food and other relief goods.
