Coastal highway opened to light traffic

ISLAMABAD, July 5: Personnel of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), after an exhaustive effort of one week, have reopened the Coastal Highway for light traffic, an ISPR press release said on Thursday.

Giving details regarding relief and rescue operations continuing in the flood-hit areas, the release said that army troops had rescued 5,000 people in Shahdatkot and a medical camp had been established at Qubo Saeed Khan. A total of 3,170 packets of ration and 150 tents were distributed in areas east of Qubo Saeed Khan.

It said since last week, troops of FWO and army engineers were working to restore the communication infrastructure in Balochistan. The Sorab-Hoshab Road and RCD Highway had been reopened for all types of traffic.

The press release said Buzi crossing on Hingol River had been opened for light traffic. A 800-meter bund had been constructed at Panjgur while 900-meter bund had been constructed at Hoshab to restore traffic, it said.

Relief operations continued at full pace as water had receded and road communication had been established by army engineers and FWO at most of the places in Balochistan, the release added.

Some 11 sorties of C-130 aircraft have been planned for Friday.—APP
