LAHORE, July 5: Judges of lower courts continued their protest for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday, vowing that they would not end their protest till the arrest of the lawyers who manhandled their colleague in Cantonment courts.
The protesting judicial officers also called for a judicial remand of the accused as a precondition to end their protest.
Nadeem Hasan Waseer, civil judge of Cantonment Courts, was abused and tortured by lawyers Taimur and Naeem and four of their unidentified accomplices for refusing to grant bail to a Rs380 million fraud accused.
Lahore Bar Association President Muhammad Shah has claimed that bar membership of the two lawyers has already been cancelled.
Courtrooms at Aiwan-i-Adl, City and Cantonment courts remained deserted as a majority of judges remained in their chambers throughout the day instead of taking up cases in courts. However, the judges are doing urgent judicial work in their chambers.
