KARACHI, July 4: Top seed Tahir Gul made short work of Azharuddin 6-2, 6-2 to retain 45-plus singles crown in the third National Seniors’ tennis championship at Karachi Club courts on Wednesday.

Incidentally, the final turned out to be a repeat of last year as Tahir maintained his ascendancy. He has already made it to the 35-plus singles final which has been deferred to a later date as his opponent has gone abroad.

Former national champion Altaf Hussain paired with Idrees Kodvavi to claim 45-plus doubles title. They combined together to inflict 6-2, 6-3 defeat on Zahid Hussain/Akbar Hayat Khan.

Earlier, Altaf along with brother Shahid won the 35 plus doubles title.

The 55 plus singles title went to Anwar Younus who handed 8-3 defeat to Idrees Kodvavi in the final. They qualified for the final after securing top two places in the round robin league.
