A parade of complaints against police

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, July 4: People complained about police officials’ non-professional attitude, poor investigation and non-registration of cases at an open court at the Central Police Office on Wednesday.

Punjab Inspector General (IG) Ahmed Nasim suspended two police officials on public’s complaints and told his subordinates to resolve the complaints in three days.

A majority of the people complained that their applications submitted with police stations and senior officials had not been entertained.

A woman from Dakanpur in Rahim Yar Khan complained she was kidnapped from her house by Maznoor and his accomplices at gunpoint and was kept at an unidentified place. She said her captors gang-raped her for four months. But police did not register a case against the accused.

Ahmed Butt, of Phalia, Mandi Bahauddin, said six robbers had looted his house, tortured his family one year ago but police had not registered a first information report. He said the station house officer had assured him that he would register a case after the identification of robbers but he did not do so even after he identified the ring leader of the robbers.

Zaheer Mufti, of Pakpattan, complained his tillers had occupied his land illegally and refused to pay the annual rent. He said the deputy superintendent of police did not take any action against the accused.

Muhammad Taufail of Samanabad complained that two branches of a so-called loan-giving company in Chauburji and on Beadon Road had minted Rs18,000 from him for a Rs900,000 loan but did not give him the promised sum.

The IG directed the acting capital city police officer (CCPO) to round up such companies.

Shahnaz Akhtar complained the Gujranwala Satellite Town police had not arrested the killers of her brother. The IG gave seven days to police to arrest the culprits.

A woman from Hunjarwal complained that her husband forced her to sleep with his friends besides giving her life threats.

She said Hunjarwal police had not taken any action against the accused.

Muhammad Ameen, of Samanabad, said his son was poisoned to death by his in-laws.

The provincial police chief directed the deputy inspector general (Investigation) to exhume the body for post-mortem.

Muhammad Yousaf, of Kot Khwaja Saeed, Gujarpura, said his sister had been missing as her husband had either killed her or detained at an undisclosed location. The PPO directed the Mughalpura SP to probe into the matter and take action against the accused.
