ISLAMABAD, July 3: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) on Tuesday increased indicative prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by six per cent with immediate effect, an Ogra announcement said.

As a result, the sale price of LPG cylinder of 11.8 kg has gone up by Rs28 or Rs2.50 per kg, according to LPG distributors association. The association said the price of commercial cylinder has increased by Rs114.

The Ogra said the price of Butane had increased from Rs34,500 per ton to Rs36,720 per ton in a month in the international market as quoted by Saudi Aramco, registering an increase of 6.4 per cent. Similarly, Propane prices have increased from Rs22,400 per ton to Rs23,680 per ton since June 3, showing an increase of 5.7 per cent.

Since LPG is composed of 40 per cent Propane and 60 per cent Butane, the overall indicative price for producers was fixed at Rs36,668 per ton, instead of Rs34,571 per ton last month, showing an increase of slightly over six per cent.

The LPG prices have gone up by more than 23 per cent or about Rs7,000 per ton since January this year when the government linked domestic LPG prices with the international prices notwithstanding the fact that more than 70 per cent of the supplies come from domestic sources.
