‘40,000 marooned in mining areas’

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, July 2: Pakistan Coal Mines Owners Association president Ghulam Sabir Khan said on Monday that 40,000 labourers were marooned in the flooded mining areas. Speaking at a press conference here, Mr Khan asked the government to expedite relief work and make arrangement for pulling out the trapped workers.

He said that the mining industry in Mach, Aabegum, Souranj, Sharag and Harnai had collapsed due to torrential rains. Landslides have destroyed offices of the industry in the fields and the labour colonies.

He asked the government to repair damaged roads and supply food and drinking water to the affected areas.
