He said the city remained dark after sunset during rains which forced the shops to stay closed in Khisakpura, Shahi bazaar, Sarafa bazaar, Hilal market, cloth market and grain market.

Badar Alam, owner of an electric store said frequent power breakdown and rain were hampering rural people from entering into the city hence reducing sales.

The District Coordination Officer of Mirpurkhas Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah visited different areas of the district on Monday to monitor steps measures taken by the district government.

The district coordination officer directed the officers and staff of the Mirpurkhas Taluk Municipal Administration officers to shift people from the dilapidated buildings, drain water out from low lying areas and keep pumping machines in running condition.

The district coordination officer advised the people and elected representatives to contact emergency centres in case of heavy rain or any untoward incident.

The district coordination officer asked all officers to remain on high alert and told director Nara Canal Water Board to remove hurdles without delay.

Meanwhile, the Mirpurkhas district administration has set-up relief camps at different places in the district. These camps had been set-up in Mirpurkhas, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Digri, Jhuddo and Naukot. Police officers had been deployed to receive relief goods.
