Deadline extended

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 2: The deadline for meeting the requirement of Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) to maintain bank accounts and other banking purposes has again been extended.

The State Bank in a circular issued here on Monday stated that the deadline had now been extended to December 31,

2007. It said that the banks were facing difficulties in meeting the deadline of June 30 for complying with requirement of CNIC.

“Banks and DFIs are advised to carry on aggressive public campaign through print and electronic media for creating public awareness on requirement of CNIC for banking purposes,” said the circular.

They were also advised to provide information on progress made on the subject on fortnightly basis.
