Talks with India from tomorrow

ISLAMABAD, July 1: A 10-member delegation from Pakistan will be going to India for the home secretary-level talks on the vital issues of terrorism and drug trafficking this week.

The talks are scheduled for July 3-4 in New Delhi.

Pakistan delegation headed by Federal Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah will include senior foreign ministry officials, director-general (South Asia) Aizaz Ahmed and director (India) Zaheer Janjua. The Indian side will be led by the Union Home Secretary V. K. Duggal. Director-general Aizaz Ahmed is already in New Delhi.

On the agenda there would be a number of pending bilateral agreements including one each on narcotics control, consular access, speedy repatriation of inadvertent border crossers and liberalisation of visa regime, well-placed diplomatic sources told Dawn.

There is guarded optimism about making some headway towards finalisation of the visa agreement.
