Pakistan spikers eye series win against India today

LAHORE, July 1: Leading the series 2-1, Pakistan will take on Asian Central Zone champions India in last of first-leg, four-match volleyball series at the Wapda Sports Complex here on Monday.

Pakistan took the lead after beating India 3-1 in the third match at Peshawar on Saturday.

After Monday's match, the remaining four Tests of the second-leg will be held in India from Aug 7. But before starting the series, Pakistan will participate in the first Commonwealth Volleyball Championship to be held in Kolkata from July 29.

Eight countries are taking part in the Commonwealth event. The event will conclude on Aug 4. Besides hosts India and Pakistan, the other countries which will take part in the Commonwealth event are Australia, Sri Lanka, Canada, New Zealand, Nigeria and Kenya.

Later, India and Pakistan will commence the second leg of their volleyball contest with the first test scheduled to be played at Vishakapatnum on Aug 7, second at Hyderabad on Aug 10, third at Coimbatore on Aug 12 and the final game at Chennai on Aug 14.

Chairman Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob, had also announced Rs25,000 cash prize for each player and team officials for gaining two consecutive victories against India in the series which put the home team 2-1 ahead.

Two teams for the fourth match are:

Pakistan: Mohammad Zaman Butt (captain), Irfan Nawaz, Mohammad Yasin, Mohammad Zahid, M. Tariq Wasim, Ashfaq Hussain, Kashif Mansoor, Naeem Jan, Muhib Rasool, Sayyad, Naseer Ahmed, Zaheer Abbas, Ali Abbas, Mohammad Farooq, Mohammad Azhar, Mohammad Riaz, Bakht Rasal and Mohammad Ismail.

India: Ukkra Pandian, Blawinder Singh, Vibin M. George, Lalit Kumar, Rampal Singh, Sube Singh, Somnathgiri Gowda, Mandeep Singh, Darshan Singh, P.S. Srikanth, Gurchand Singh, K.P. Sayem, G Pardeep, Shelton Moses, Surdeep, Vijesh.
