Maulana Sami denied UK visa

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, July 1: The British High Commission in Islamabad has denied visa to Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam chief Senator Maulana Sameeul Haq.

Maulana Haq had applied for the visa to attend the multi-party conference scheduled to be held in London this month.

A press release issued here on Sunday said the High Commission had given Maulana Haq a charge sheet and even barred him from filing an appeal against the decision.

The party has requisitioned a meeting of the Standing Committee of the house to discuss the issue, it said.

In 2005, the European parliament had refused entry to Maulana Sameeul Haq which sparked a diplomatic row between Islamabad and the European Union.
