Police claim killing three assailants: Attack on naib nazim

By Our Correspondent

SIALKOT, July 1: The Pasrur police claimed on Sunday to have shot dead three of the gangsters immediately after they made an attempt on the life of the Muridke tehsil naib nazim in an encounter near Fatehwali village.

Reports said Muridke Tehsil Naib Nazim Khurram Gulfam was coming to Pasrur along with some other people and guards to see his relatives when 10 armed people sprayed his vehicle with bullets. Khurram escaped the attack but one of his guards was grievously injured.

On receiving information, a huge contingent of Pasrur and Qila Kalarwala police chased the suspects and at some distance had an exchange of fire with them. Three gangsters were shot dead while the remaining seven escaped.

The police recovered weapons in quantity from the deceased who were identified as Zafar alias Zafri, Shahid alias Shahidu and Asghar Ali alias Billa.

The injured bodyguard, Amanullah, was admitted to a local hospital in critical condition.

The tehsil naib nazim later told journalists that his political rivals were involved in the attack.

The police investigators claimed that the deceased had a criminal record and were wanted by the police in dozens of cases of murder and robbery. Their bodies were shifted to the THQ hospital for autopsy.

The Qila Kalarwala police registered a case and undertook investigation.

HUMAN TRAFFICKER: A raiding team of the Federal Investigation Agency has arrested a human trafficker in the city.

Officials told newsmen on Sunday that Muhammad Riaz had been doing the illegal business for the last several years.
